Humans operate as a whole person not in isolated parts!
Research shows that when we constantly or regularly have high levels of stress or are over busy this has a detrimental affect on heart health, hormonal health, thyroid function, all inflammatory conditions, cancers, degenerative diseases etc. During times of stress we don’t take time to eat properly or digest our food, this affects the whole of the digestive system and health Click here to read article. Secretion of digestive enzymes are compromised and this means foods are not broken down properly for absorption and our nutrient status becomes sub-optimal, which this goes on to compromise digestion further. Many nutrients that are important for making good digestive enzymes are then too low and our physical and mental health can suffer!
Science now recognises the effect on mental health and the stress response from the resident bacteria in the gastro intestinal tract. Mind altering bacteria is an article of interest and there are many more you can access.
We also know that when we are rushing around and our bodies are on high alert for danger and action; our blood becomes stickier and clots more readily, our blood pressure increases, muscles become tense and ache, bowel & bladder functioning is affected, we become angry or depressed more quickly, we may eat ‘on the hoof’ and often the most nutrient compromised foods, we crave sweet foods and the list can go on….. Do you recognise this?
